    Burnt Chimney Surveying is primarily engaged in surveying and mapping services in and around Rutherford County. We are located at 269 East Main Street in Forest City, North Carolina, which was originally incorporated as Burnt Chimney, the site of  a Civil War muster grounds.  Burnt Chimney Surveying traces its origins by apprenticeship to the late Mr. Fred A. Wilkie, RLS-881 who retired in the mid-1970ís  and his father Mr. J. A. Wilkie who surveyed around this area before registration was required.  We are a fully equipped firm employing the most up to date electronic digital reflectorless total stations and data collectors.  We are also equipped with Ashtech geodetic grade dual frequency GPS receivers with RTK capability.  We have utilized AutoCad and Softdesk computer drafting and surveying software since 1988 and have the most experience with computer drafting of any survey firm in this area.   We have extensive survey files and plats dating back to the early 1970ís that prove invaluable in research for current surveys.

    The firm has two North Carolina registered land surveyors on staff, one of which is also registered in South Carolina.  Charles D. Owens, Jr. NCPLS-2413 SCPLS-14803 and James T. King, III NCPLS-3478  Mr. Owens began under Mr. Wilkieís tutelage in 1961 at age 10 and has been registered in North Carolina since Dec. 1976.  Mr. King began working for Mr. Owens and has also worked for Mr. Nathan Odom and  has been registered since Dec. 1991.

    Burnt Chimney Surveying has been employed  in the past by the Rutherford County Airport Authority,  the State of North Carolina,  the Wildlife Resources Commission,  the Nature Conservancy (North Carolina Chapter), the Foothills Conservancy of North Carolina, the Towns of Forest City, Ellenboro and Bostic  and many other municipal and governmental agencies.  Our corporate clients include Burlington Industries, Cone Mills, Stonecutter Mills, Lawyers Title, First Union Bank, BB&T and Community Bank.   We have also worked for numerous private land owners, developers and contractors for which we have provided many various types of work.  We have experience in horizontal and vertical control work for aerial surveys, boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction stakeout, subdivision design and stakeout surveys .
